  13. COMMUNICATION DESIGN ENGINEERING CONFERENCE

  16. The Communication Design Engineering Conference (CDEC) is soliciting
  17. abstracts for the second annual CDEC Conference, October 29-31, 1996. 
  18. CDECÆs high-caliber, in-depth technical conference focuses on the design
  19. methodologies for digital communications systems serving the information
  20. needs of engineers and managers who design and build wired and wireless
  21. communication systems.
  22. SESSION TYPES
  23. A combination of one- and two-hour workshops, as well as full-day
  24. tutorials,  will explore a wide variety of topics.  Time allotted for each
  25. session will depend on the subject matter and the needs of each speaker. 
  26. Sessions begin at 8:30am and run until 5:00pm.  Classes concentrate on the
  27. telecommunications and data communications sectors of the communications
  28. industry, with particular focus on areas where these technologies
  29. converge.  The 1-hour and 2-hour classes should focus on specific
  30. equipment design issues such as:
  31. ò ASIC design
  32. ò Embedded communications
  33. software
  34. ò Digital modulation
  35. techniques
  36. ò Architectural considerations
  37. ò Standards and protocols
  38. ò Interfacing issues
  39. ò Hardware/software codesign
  40. ò Technology decisions
  41. ò Low power issues
  42. ò Processor and component implementations
  43. ò and other design methodologies......
  44.  
  45. Emphasizing particular applications/technologies such as:
  46. ò Internetworking
  47. ò Videoconferencing
  48. ò Voice Processing
  49. ò Infrared
  50. ò Satellite Communications
  51. ò Thermal Management
  52. ò RF and Microwave
  53. ò LAN/WAN
  54. ò Set-top boxes
  55. ò Wireless datacom/WLANs
  56. ò PCI
  57. ò Cellular/PCS
  58. ò 10/100 Mbit Ethernet
  59. ò Multimedia communications
  60. ò ATM
  61. ò SONET/Fiber transmission
  62. ò ISDN/ADSL/HDSL

  67. SELECTION CRITERIA
  68. CDEC presenters will be chosen primarily on the strength of their
  69. proposals and on their own qualifications.   The CDEC technical program is
  70. not a forum for sales pitches.  Proposals, which CDEC show management
  71. believes will be used to promote/sell products, will not be accepted, and
  72. speakers who deliver a commercialized session will not be invited to
  73. return to the CDEC technical program.
  74. The goal of the CDEC technical program is for each conference attendee to
  75. walk away with practical solutions and a better understanding of tools and
  76. techniques (s)he can implement immediately on the job.  
  77. PAPERS AND COMPENSATION
  78. Speaker compensation comprises complimentary admission to the conference
  79. and events (an $800+ value).  In addition, an honorarium of $250 per class
  80. will be given to speakers from non-exhibiting companies, with payment
  81. contingent on meeting the proceedings paper deadline and presentation of
  82. the class assigned.  CDEC does not pay travel, hotel, or expenses for
  83. speakers. 
  84. PROPOSAL FORMAT
  85. The proposal for lectures and workshops must contain the following
  86. information:
  87. òCourse title
  88. òSpeakerÆs name, affiliation, and a biography of NO MORE than 100 words. 
  89. Include contact information (address, phone, fax, and email)
  90. òAbstract: A 150-word description that describes the class, the benefits
  91. to be gained by attending, and the prerequisite knowledge needed by the
  92. attendee.
  93. If you are interested in presenting a technical session at CDEC, please
  94. submit your proposed topic on the reverse side of this notice.

  104. All selected instructors are required to write an 10-15 page whitepaper
  105. for inclusion in the conference proceedingsùdue August 5, 1996
  106. Presentations demonstrating features of proprietary products are
  107. discouraged.  All
  108. selected speakers MUST submit a paper for the conference
  109. proceedings.

  112. following information must be completed.
  113. PROPOSED TITLE:
  114. ABSTRACT
  115. (Approximately 150 words outlining your proposed session.  Each abstract
  116. should be suitable for publicationùits purpose is to sell attendees on
  117. your session.  Accepted abstracts will be published in the conference
  118. catalog.)
  119. BIOGRAPHY
  120. Approximately 80 words on your professional background, education, or
  121. other information indicating your qualifications as a presenter of the
  122. proposed topic.  Biographies of accepted speakers will be published in the
  123. conference catalog.
